2020 Cohort

Angelica Gonzalez (she/her/hers) was born and raised in Inglewood, CA by Mexican parents. She has two older sisters and is proud to have had Inglewood, CA be her home for the past 18 years. 

Angelica is a recent high school graduate who will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles to earn a B.A. in Film and Television. Fueled by Hollywood’s lack of and misrepresentation of historically marginalized groups, Angelica plans to use her voice as a Latinx, narrative filmmaker to change the representation of said groups. 

Her goal is to ultimately start a production company which will allow women, BIPOC, and the LGBTQIA+ community to take control of their own narratives.

Diana Rivera (she/her/hers) was born and raised in Inglewood, CA by Mexican parents.

Diana is a second year transfer student from El Camino Community College at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is majoring in Chicanx Studies with a minor in Education Studies. 

While at UCLA, Diana has gained an interest in education policy and reform. She is involved with the Underground Scholar Initiative at UCLA, and serves as a grant writer for this student organization on campus. She is also an intern with Million Dollar Hood Community Internship with JusticeLA. Diana has a passion for giving back to her community. 

Diana plans to pursue a career in education, as a school administrator or academic counselor. 

Leonel Garcia was raised in Inglewood, CA to Mexican parents from Oaxaca, Mexico. He has three brothers. Inglewood, CA has been his home for over 25 years.

In 2015, Leo earned a B.A. in Political Science from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.

Since returning to Inglewood, CA, Leo has helped various organizations and officials to make Inglewood, CA a better place. In 2016, Leo was chosen by Councilmember Alex Padilla to serve as the District 2 Parking and Traffic Commissioner.

Yadira Colon was raised in Inglewood, CA to a Mexican mother and Puerto Rican father.

In 2019, she earned a B.A. in Sociology from California State University, Dominguez Hills. While at CSU Dominguez Hills, Yadira developed a passion for helping others. 

Currently, Yadira works as an instructional aid at an elementary school helping young kids develop the proper skills to transition into successful young adults. 

Yadira plans on earning a M.A. in Social Work to help underserved children in her community. 

Yadira is ready to take on a new step on her journey by joining the ING Fellowship to raise awareness and be involved in her community.

Tomas Medina (he/him/his) was born and raised in Inglewood, CA by a Guatemalan mother and Mexican father. He has three older sisters. 

Currently, Tomas is earning a A.A. in Computer Science at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, CA.

His goal is to transfer to a four year university within the next year and eventually graduate with a B.S. in Computer Science.

Suseth Fonseca (she/her/hers) was raised in Inglewood, CA to Mexican parents. She has a younger sister.

In 2019, Susie earned a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Humboldt.  She is currently earning her M.A. in Clinical Counseling from GCU. She also works as a caretaker in Inglewood, CA.

Her goal is to obtain a license in clinical counseling and open a private practice in Inglewood, CA to offer her community more mental health services and resources.

Anthony Moran was born and raised in Inglewood, CA by Guatemalan parents. He has four older sisters. 

In 2019, Anthony earned his B.A. in Community and Regional Development from the University of California, Davis. His area of specialization is in Policy Planning and Social Services.

Anthony is currently working for the United States Veterans Initiative in Inglewood, CA; a transitional housing program for veterans and their families who are experiencing homelessness. 

His passion for helping others motivated him to dedicate his career for the betterment of the Inglewood community, specifically in the housing sector. He recognizes that much of his success can be directly attributed to the fact that he had a roof over his head growing up, and parents that prioritized education and making sure their children had somewhere to sleep. He believes that housing is a human right and hopes to one day solve the housing crisis in California. 

Vick Garcia (he/him/his) was raised in Inglewood, CA by Mexican parents. He moved to Inglewood at the age of 4 with his older sister and uncle, and has been living in the same house ever since. His older sister and uncle have since moved to other states to start their own families, but Vick still comfortably lives there with his parents along with his cousin, two dogs, and two cats. 

Vick recently graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Sociology and Chicanx Studies and a minor in Education Studies. While at UCLA, Vick completed his own research project surrounding Schools to Prison and LGBTQ students of color. 

Currently, Vick works as a Peer Learning Facilitator at UCLA’s Academic Advancement Program (AAP) and will soon be starting his college advisor position at Venice High School through UCLA’s Destination College Advising Corps. 

Vick plans to pursue a career in education, starting off as a high school counselor and one day returning to the Inglewood Unified School District. His biggest goals in life include pursuing a postgraduate degree, working with or starting programs to support youth, and supporting his family with their own dreams. He is also constantly trying to grow his pokemon card collection!

Kevin Martinez was born and raised in South Central LA to a Mexican mother. 

In 2016, Kevin earned a B.A. in Sociology from and a M.Ed in Education, Culture and Society from Utah University. 

Since returning to South Central LA, Kevin has been working community work and is currently working as a Community School Coordinator at Morningside High School. Kevin is passionate about youth empowerment, college access/success, and social justice in education. 

Kevin is an ING Mentor for the ING Fellowship 2020 Cohort.

Sergio Soltero (he/him/his) was born in Montebello, CA. He has moved and lived in various locations throughout his life, but his heart and lessons reside in Inglewood, CA. 

Sergio is a fourth year student at California State University, San Jose. He is majoring in Psychology. 

Sergio hopes to use all the resources, tools, and knowledge he has to create a safe space in Los Angeles, CA for queer black and brown folk.
